Played in America alongside George Best and Teofilo Cubillas, all three well past their best by then but on paper that is a stellar front line.

Re: Der Bomber has left us.
The best penalty box striker ever

Had alcohol problems when he went to America after Bayern and only shook it when they brought him back to coach the juniors.
Understand he had dementia hence his relatively young age at his death.

"Kleines dickes Müller" is shit German - I'd take my source to task, if I could remember what it was...

Re: Der Bomber has left us.
Broke my heart when he hooked the ball in past Bonetti in the 1970 World Cup!

Absolute brilliant centre-forward, his goal per game record is unbelievable.

75 not a great age, RIP Gerd.

Small in stature, huge in talent. Broke many an English heart.

For a while he seemed to have slipped down the pantheon of the game's greats, certainly outside of Germany, but is now rightly restored.

RIP Gerd

Yeh, he was a great centre forward. Remember him well from the ‘70 and ‘74 World cups.
Was a stocky little fucker and lively on his feet. Scored some quality goals throughout his career.

RIP

Re: Der Bomber has left us.
I'm too young to have seen him play but remember as a kid seeing his international record and being awed by the fact he scored more goals than played games. That's practically unheard of at international level football, even now days.

RIP to one of the true greats.

The meaning of the word muller, goes back to the gypsy/traveller meaning - to kill someone

Shame. One of the greats. Re: Mullering It would make sense but I think the term pre-dated him though I'm not entirely sure.

Always thought it’s was cos of him… anyone know?

1970 World Cup Moore, Charlton, Muller and Bonneti

Re: Der Bomber has left us.
His other nickname was "Kleines dickes Müller" - small fat miller, a way of pointing that great footballers didn't (don't?) have to be great athletes.

RIP to a true legend.

He would have made a tasty combination with Declan.

Sad news. As Cough says their Jimmy Greaves. Remember his winning goal in the 74 world cup final when the ball was behind him but he dragged it in.

RIP.

716 games, 684 goals.

64 West German caps, 68 goals.

This was before teams like San Marino and Gibraltar came along.

He was a goal scoring machine.
